MANSFIELD — Mansfield Senior’s stingy defense limited Mount Vernon to just three first-quarter points, and the offense took care of the rest in a 51-38 boys basketball victory on Tuesday night at Pete Henry Gym.

Beau Bridges had 14 points and 10 rebounds to top the Yellow Jackets (4-9, 3-5), while Blake Meyer added 13 points.

Mansfield Senior (4-4 overall, 2-2 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference) forged a 9-3 first-period lead, stretched it to 27-11 in the second quarter, and owned a 27-16 advantage at intermission. The two teams played an even second half. The Tygers maintained a 38-27 advantage heading to the final eight minutes, and coasted home.

Shad Creamer topped Senior High with 17 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Amil Upchurch chipped in 10 points.

Mansfield Senior connected on nearly 50 percent of its field goals, shooting at a 20-of-41 clip. Meanwhile, Mount Vernon made just 15 of 43 shots.
