MOUNT VERNON – Judge Otho Eyster handed down sentences on Friday in nine felony cases. According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, Anthony R. Ferrell, 31, Mount Vernon, was convicted of possession of cocaine, escape, inducing panic, having weapons while under legal disability, receiving stolen property, and tampering with evidence. Ferrell was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Thatcher said on September 27, Ferrell was pulled over by a Sheriff’s Deputy on U.S. Route 36, near Bangs. Ferrell got out of the car, pulled a 9 mm handgun from his waistband and started running. Detective David Light, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, had just arrived at the scene to provide backup for the deputy. Light chased Ferrell until Ferrell stopped running and threatened to commit suicide. Ferrell held officers at bay with threats of suicide for the next two hours, and just prior to surrendering he removed and swallowed two baggies of cocaine he had hidden in his sock. Thatcher said Ferrell is not permitted to possess firearms because of a 2007 felony assault conviction, and the gun he had was stolen.

William N. Strouse, 45, Mount Vernon, was convicted of two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs for selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant working for the Mount Vernon Police Department, on January 16 and 18. Strouse was sentenced to 17 months in prison. Detective Craig Feeney investigated the case.

Malcolm J. Hunter, 24, Mount Vernon, must register his address with authorities because of a 2011 conviction for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Hunter was convicted of failing to provide change of address notification to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and he was sentenced to 15 months in prison. Deputy Daniel Selby investigated the case.

Natasha L. Angeletti, 19, Mount Vernon, was convicted of attempted robbery for assaulting an 18 year old female and attempting to steal her purse, on July 21. Angeletti was sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision and a suspended 17 month prison term. Corporal Kyle Theibert, MVPD, investigated the case.

Bryce Kolberg, 19, Loudonville, was convicted of receiving stolen property for possessing a stolen credit card, on September 12. Kolberg was sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision and a suspended 11 month prison term. Detective David Light investigated the case.

20-year-old Nathan R. Frasure, Centerburg, is serving a three year term of community control supervision for drug possession and receiving stolen property convictions. Frasure admitted he violated the terms of his supervision by having no contact with his supervising officer since April 11. He was sentenced to an 11 month prison term.

Erika Y. Crain, 33, Barberton, is serving a three year term of community control supervision for attempted burglary and grand theft convictions. Crain admitted she violated the terms of her supervision by testing positive for use of opiates on September 12, and for being terminated from the Community Health Center for failing to report to drug counseling appointments. Crain’s community control supervision was continued with a commitment to the Oriana House, an in-patient drug treatment program in Akron.

Jeffrey L, Smith, II, 21, Mount Vernon, is serving a three year term of community control supervision for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Smith admitted he violated the terms of his supervision by having contact with underage females, in August and September, according to reports taken by the Ashland Police Department. Smith was sentenced to a 17 month prison term.

In 2010, Scott M. Hoover, 53, Powell, started a three year term of community control supervision for felony nonsupport of dependents. Although Hoover paid $11,000.00 toward his court-ordered restitution as of August 2013, he failed to pay all of his child support arrears prior to the expiration of his term of supervision. Hoover was given credit for 72 days he served in jail, and he was terminated from his supervision unsuccessfully.
