Shirley A. Ross, age 87, of Butler, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 14, 1935 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the daughter of William and Mary (Totman) Ackerman.
Shirley owned and operated the Merle Norman store in downtown Mount Vernon, opening doors in 1980 and retiring in 2015. She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Hill Church in Mount Vernon. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed traveling and riding her horse. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend that will be sadly missed by all.
She is survived by her children, Doug (Merita) Ross of Longwood, Florida, Billie Gay (Ron) Jones of Ocala, Florida, Thomas (Chris) Ross of Butler, Robin (Tanja) Ross of Mount Vernon and Kellie (Mitch) Martin of Mount Vernon, nine grandchildren, Landra, Angela, Nicole, Kendra, Kory, Lanny, Lacy, Douglas, Kassady and nine great grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Ackerman, Kenneth “Buzz” Ackerman, Walter “Squirt” Ackerman, three sisters, Dorothy Calkins, Helen Lanning, Bea Ekelberry and the father of her children, Lanny Ross.
The family will observe a private graveside service in St. John’s Cemetery in Mount Vernon. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Shirley A. Ross.
