MOUNT VERNON — Four of Knox County’s five baseball teams will open postseason play on their home fields.
Mount Vernon, Fredericktown, Centerburg and East Knox will all host sectional championship games, while Danville will hit the road when the tournament begins next week.
In Division I, Mount Vernon earned the No. 10 seed in the 47-team central district field. The Yellow Jackets took a first-round bye and will host either No. 20 Dublin Jerome or No. 40 Chillicothe at 5 p.m. May 18 in the sectional finals. Jerome and Chilliocothe will meet at 5 p.m. May 16 at Jerome in the sectional semifinals.
In Division III, Knox Morrow Athletic Conference front-runner Fredericktown earned the No. 2 seed, while Centerburg picked up the No. 3 seed. The Freddies (14-4) will host No. 16 Madison-Plains or No. 17 Northridge at 5 p.m. May 19 in the sectional championship game. Madison-Plains hosts Northridge at 5 p.m. May 17.
In the top half of the bracket, Centerburg (16-3) will host No. 9 Columbus Academy at 5 p.m. May 19 in the sectional final.
In Division IV, East Knox (12-5) earned the No. 3 seed and will host No. 17 Harvest Prep at 5 p.m. May 18 in the sectional final. In the other Division IV central district bracket, Danville (3-13) picked up the No. 12 seed and will open tournament play at No. 4 Millersport at 5 p.m. May 18 in the sectional final.
