MOUNT VERNON — Retinal screening without dilation for routine eye exams is now available at Knox Community Hospital’s Department of Specialty Care-Ophthalmology (vision clinic) with Dr. Philip Holzer.
The screening is intended for routine vision exams, not to monitor medical eye conditions.
Retinal screenings use specialized imaging to capture detailed pictures of the back of the eye without the need for dilating eye drops. Benefits include a more accurate, clear image of the back of the eye, where the doctor can see very fine details via a high-tech camera, more clearly than with the traditional type of screening.
There is also no blurry vision from dilation, which many patients will appreciate. This screening allows for quicker appointments, greater comfort, and convenience.
Early detection can help identify signs of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, hypertensive retinopathy, and other retinal abnormalities.
Payment methods for this self-pay screening include check, cash, and credit cards. Insurances do not cover this type of screening.
