COLUMBUS — Danville’s “Bomb Squad” blew up during the opening day of the Division V state track meet.
Brookelynn Carter took third in the shot put Thursday at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Stadium.
Her throw of 41-3.25 broke her own school record and personal best of 41-1.5 set at last week’s regional meet. Carter more than lived up to the nickname.
“We’re the Bomb Squad,” Carter said. “It’s a nickname our coach gave us and he got us custom jerseys.”
If Carter and Co. are the Bomb Squad, then Jenny Alexander is a charter member of Fredericktown’s High-Flyers Club. A junior, Alexander placed third in the Division IV pole vault competition with a personal-best vault of 12-feet.
Alexander entered the competition at 10-6 and missed her first two attempts before clearing the bar. She did the same thing at 11-feet.
“I almost no-heighted,” Alexander said. “I was definitely in my head at the beginning but I got out of it and was just having fun and had a good meet after that.”
Teammate Ella Bouton placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 135-6.
“With my seeding it went a lot better than I thought it would,” said Bouton, who came in seeded 13th. “I really wanted to break 140. I didn’t quite get there but I threw a good series so I can’t be too upset.”
East Knox’s Isabelle Bostic had a big day. The junior qualified for the finals in the 400 (58.69) and anchored the qualifying 4×200 and 4×400 meter relay teams.
The 4×200 team of Ava Faucett, Ellie Clark and Macie Fawcett had the sixth-fastest qualifying time (1:45.05). The 4×400 quarter of Faucess, Cloe Tucker, Fawcett and Bostic is seeded fourth going into the finals (4:00.75).
