LEXINGTON — Lucy Rush will be busy next week.

Mount Vernon’s distance ace, Rush qualified for next week’s state meet in both the 3,200 and 1,600 at the Division II regional meet Friday at Lexington.

Rush won the 3,200 title Wednesday in 10:45.34. She followed that up with a fifth-place finish in the 1,600 (5:05.11) on Friday.

Teammate Kennedy Howard took runner-up honors in the pole vault competition with a vault of 12-0.

“My goal today was to just qualify for state, so I guess I’m happy about that,” Howard said. “Height-wise, I didn’t jump as high as I wanted to, but that’s OK.

“I’m not too upset about it.”

Khloe Bradley will also make the trip to Columbus after finishing third in the shot put Wednesday with a throw of 40-2.75.

The 4×400 team of Juliet Boyd, Kinsley Firebaugh, Nadia Nougi and Cora Stetler grabbed the fifth and final state qualifying spot in 4:06.94.

For the boys, Calvin Heithaus broke the school record with a third-place finish in the 1,600 (4:16.21).

“I was hoping to qualify for state and set a new school record, so overall I’m pretty happy,” Heithaus said. “I’m hoping to go down there and get onto the podium.”
