MOUNT VERNON — Four Knox County adult volunteers with the Civil Air Patrol Knox County Airport Cadet Flight received state and regional awards at the recent CAP Ohio Wing Conference held at the Cherry Valley Hotel in Newark, April 24 to 26.

Chief Master Sergeant Craig Cox, the flight commander, and also the Ohio Wing Senior Enlisted Leader, received both the Ohio Wing Senior NCO of the Year Award as well as the CAP Great Lakes Region Senior NCO of the Year Award. 

In addition to Ohio, the Great Lakes Region of CAP includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Also being awarded were 1st Lt. Kimberly Cox received the Ohio Wing Administrative Officer of the Year Award, 1st Lt. John Morgan received the Ohio Wing Colonel Robert (Bud) Payton Public Affairs Officer of the Year Award and Senior Member Daniel Wilson received the Ohio Wing received the Ohio Wing Frank G. Brewer, Sr, Memorial Aerospace Education Award.

The Knox County Airport Cadet Flight meets every Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the Knox County Airport terminal building.

The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is open to youth ages 12 to 18. The program focuses on Leadership, Aerospace Education, Physical Fitness and Character Development.
