Harold Martin Smith, age 82 passed away on April 22, 2026 at OhioHealth Hospice House (formerly Kobacker House). Harold was born December 13, 1943 in Union Township, OH to David and Ethel (Parker) Smith.
He grew up with many brothers and sisters, a baseball team you might say. In fact, he had many happy memories of playing baseball and horse shoes at family reunions. He married his sweetheart Linda L. Smith in a church in Sparta, NC in 1967. He took pride in hard work and a job well done. Growing up Harold worked many farms with his family, building fences with his dad and brothers, making potato chips for a small business, working with horses at Scioto Downs, later laying black top and finally retiring from Ranco Controls.
Harold loved mowing his yard and was known to help fellow friends or neighbors mow theirs, also. He enjoyed playing baseball for Ranco, bowling with his wife and friends, working on cars with his son, watching B-rate horror movies with his daughter, helped raise his granddaughters & taught them to plant gardens & to read before pre-school, and helped build a playset with his son-in-law for his granddaughters. He was a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan, most of his wardrobe consisted of buckeye t-shirts. He was proud of his home he and his wife had built in Plain City, OH and his family he also raised in Plain City.
Harold is survived by his son and daughter, Tony Smith and Erica (Timothy) Evans; and three granddaughters: Kailin Boniella, Ashley Evans, and Jessica Evans. He is also survived by his brothers and sister: Jack (Teresa) Smith, Roger (Sonja) Smith, and Mary Smith Mullett; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Linda L. Smith, and several brothers and sisters: David, Richard, Ethel, Rita, Faye, Barb, Ruth, Helen, Nina and Ima Jean.
Family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Thurs, May 7th, 2026 at Brick House Blue, 213 S Chillicothe St; Plain City. Phil Conrad will provide a service and prayer at 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Harold’s name to OhioHealth Hospice House. Harold will be laid to rest with his wife at Hartford Cemetery, 10198 Bennington Chapel Rd., Croton
