Martha A. Blanchard, 92, of Fredericktown passed away on Friday morning, April 10, 2026 at home surrounded by her caring family and her faithful canine companion, Boy. She was born on December 15, 1933 in Knox County to the late Edgil and Ruth (Shaw) Ryan.

Martha was a faithful member of the Saint John the Baptist Parish, attending Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Martha is survived by her children, David (Addie) Horn, Ruth (Mark) Douglas, Mary Alice Blanchard and Jim (Cindy) Blanchard; 12 grandchildren, Erin (Jason) Brechtel, Russell (Monica) Horn II, Janice (Chris) Morris, Ryan (Shelly) Wenger, Logan Wenger, Bernie (Hadleigh) Douglas, Eldon (Luna) Douglas, Marilu Holmes (Lance Roberts) Anne (Corey) Lewis, Josh (Teressa) Blanchard, Ben (Brittany) Blanchard and Alli (Nick) Clippinger; 22 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. 2 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild are expected this year.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of over 61 years, Bernard L. Blanchard; her first husband, Russell Horn; a great grandson, Kaden Floyd Holmes; sisters, Maxine Gilpen, Mary Lou Ryan, Barbara Blanchard and Patricia (Susie) Mendez; and brothers, Paul, Bob, Ernie, Bill and John Ryan.

Martha graduated from Butler high School in 1951 and upon graduation worked at Shellmar. Martha married Russell Horn on October 25, 1952 and he was killed in an accident January 23, 1957 leaving her with a 3 year old David and an unborn daughter, Ruth. Bernard and Martha married on June 8, 1962 and Mary Alice and Jim completed the family.

Martha began beauty school in September of 1957 at the 3- B school in Newark Ohio, graduating in May of 1958. She opened a shop in her home and maintained doing hair from her home until the mid 90’s. Besides running her own shop Martha was the resident hairdresser for Northside Manor for many years.

Martha was active in the churches, she was a den mother, a leader in Wooster mission circle and a 4-H advisor.

Martha was a tour guide for Eagle Rock Tours, her and Bernard enjoyed traveling frequently.

Martha especially enjoyed traveling with family.

Martha was very active with the Fredericktown senior citizens where she was president. She enjoyed drawing and painting and visiting with family and friends throughout her life.

To know Martha was a life of love and laughter. It was a treat to hear stories from her memory of her lifetime, being able to share a legacy of love.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. A prayer service will follow the visitation with Deacon Tim Birie presiding.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father James Farnan as the Celebrant. Martha will be laid to rest with her husbands in Mound View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that you would donate to the charity of your choice that will help the homeless and the hungry, which was a passion of Martha’s.
