MOUNT VERNON — The Food For The Hungry board is opening a summer grant opportunity aimed at reaching churches, agencies, and organizations that provide summer food distribution programs to fill the gap for families with children home from school.
Thanks to the generosity of Knox County, the funds raised during the 2025 FFTH Drive Season totaled $394,301.89. The FFTH board has designated a portion of the collection for summer grants.
Local organizations, FFTH board members, and Executive Director Kathy Brechler met on March 25 to discuss the FFTH grant process and learn about the work being done throughout Knox County to reduce hunger.
There was a collaborative and productive discussion among the organizations as they shared ideas of how they could contribute to each other’s efforts to help those in need in the county.
One way Food For The Hungry has accommodated the needs expressed by Knox County food initiatives is by opening the grant application for an entire month. The application process will be open from Wednesday, April 1, through Thursday, April 30, at 12 p.m.
Awards will be announced in late May or early June. The online application is available at FoodForTheHungryCares.org.
Organizations may apply for an FFTH summer grant for programs that will provide food assistance and distribution through the summer months until Sept 30. Priority will be given to programs that assist youth who rely on school-provided meals during the school year.
However, groups that provide assistance outside the traditional Mid-Ohio Food Collective income guidelines are strongly encouraged to apply. All other food initiative organizations are also welcome to submit an application.
