MOUNT VERNON — With more rain predicted later this week, standing water may cover roadways in parts of the county.
The Knox County Emergency Management Agency reminds residents to never drive through flooded roads.
It can be difficult to determine how deep the water is or if the road underneath has been damaged or washed out. Just a few inches of water can cause a driver to lose control of a vehicle. Deeper water can stall engines or sweep vehicles off the roadway.
If you encounter water covering the road:
• Turn around and find another route.
• Never drive around barricades.
• Slow down and remain alert for flooded areas.
• Report hazardous road conditions to 911.
Your safety — and the safety of first responders — depends on making smart decisions while traveling.
Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
