Raymond Larry Walters, of Utica, went to heaven on March 7, 2026, peacefully at home with his family by his side. Raymond was born on June 18, 1945, in Mt Vernon, to the late Arley Lee and Genevive (McKibben) Walters.

Larry enlisted in the US Navy in 1963 and served as a machinist on the USS Gurke (DD-783), including a deployment to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1969. He was a welder at many places for industrial welding with his tenure at Drummond Coal where he was a supervisor for dragline assembly as one of his favorites. Larry loved riding his Harley’s and had a free spirit always looking for the next adventure. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working in the garage on his bikes. Larry was a handyman and could build or fix almost anything. He enjoyed visiting with family and having coffee on Saturday mornings.

Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years Ruth (Qualls) Walters; children, Shawn (Lisa) Walters of St. Louisville, Wendy (Jim Watkins) Walters of Dresden, Kelley (Larry) Williams of Florida, Donald “Degie” (Kris) Grigsby Jr., of Utica, Teresa Jacks of Zanesville; brother, Robert “Bob” (Marianne) Walters, of Florida; 10 grandkids, 18 great grandkids, and 5 great-great grandkids; sisters-in-law, Barb Pontz and Linda Qualls..

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Dick” Walters, and son, Steven Grigsby; brother-in-law, Donnie Qualls and sister-in-law Wanda Grueser.

There will be no services at this time per Larry’s wishes. The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.
