Robert Cecil Ready Jr, age 76, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Knox Community Hospital.
He was born on March 11, 1949, in Canton, Ohio to the late Robert and Erma Faye (Wingert) Ready. Robert earned his master’s degree in social work from Bowling Green University. He was employed at Cooper-Bessemer and Hope Now Furniture Bank. Robert worked for many years as a social worker for the Knox County MRDD from which he retired. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Post #4027 VFW, Boy Scouts of America and Epworth Gambier Methodist Church. Robert was a veteran serving in the United States Navy for over 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, of over 52 years, Diana (Miller) Ready; his daughters, Danya (Sean) Platt, Robyn (Connor) Watson, Shannon (Jesse) Johnson; his son Kevin (Heather) Ready; and eleven grandchildren, Xavier Platt, Caedmon Platt, Levi Platt, AubreyAnna Platt, Addison Ready, Mason Ready, Hanna Ready, Charlie Ready, Tyler Johnson, Logan Johnson and Chloe Johnson.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Robert Cecil Ready and Erma Faye (Wingert) Ready.
Friends may call on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Epworth Gambier Methodist Church from 10am-12pm. A service will follow, beginning at 12pm, with Rev. Susan Stevens officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will take place in Amity Cemetery.
