Carolyn Sue McCalla Nugent, 75, of Powell, Ohio, passed away quietly at home on February 8, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer, with her sister and nephew by her side.

Born on September 7, 1950, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Carolyn was the daughter of the late C. Gilbert and Dorothy Line McCalla. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1968 and later completed business college.

At just 19 years old, Carolyn began her career at The Ohio State University. After surviving a ruptured brain aneurysm at age 33, she demonstrated remarkable strength and determination by returning to work. She continued her career as an accountant with OSU Athletics until retiring at age 53. A devoted Buckeye fan, she took great pride in her years of service to the university.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her great-niece, Ellen Baker.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara McDonald (Kenneth) of St. Paris, Ohio; her brother, John G. McCalla (Renee) of Locust Grove, Virginia; five nieces and nephews; and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 22, at First Baptist Church, 138 W. Plum St., St. Paris, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the ULI Cleveland Ellen Baker Memorial Scholarship.
