MOUNT VERNON — For those counting the number of gas stations in the city, it might be welcome news to learn that Mount Vernon is only getting one new gas station right now, not two.
According to Safety-Service Director Tanner Salyers, the plan for a Circle K on Radio Hill fell through. The property (17421 Coshocton Ave., the former site of WMVO Radio and BAS Broadcasting) is once again for sale.

However, the gas station at the former Rite Aid site at 4 Newark Road is still a go. Demolition started this week for a Duke & Duchess gas station.
City Inspector Scott Zimmerman said the station will include a mini-mart. The station will maintain the current access onto Newark Road. However, it will be a right-in, right-out only entrance.
Access from the east side of the station is being finalized. Plans are to widen the alley between the station and the storage units.
Salyers encouraged residents to become involved in the city’s growth and development.
“If you’re an entrepreneur looking to invest in retail or a restaurant, here’s your chance on a prime piece of real estate in a growing area of our city,” he said of the parcel on Radio Hill.
“The local government doesn’t choose what businesses go where, but we do want to see economic activity happen and send the message that Mount Vernon is a community for businesses and families to build and grow.
