James Frederick “Fred” Groseclose, age 84, of Fredericktown passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

He was born on February 15, 1942, in Washington D.C. to the late Roger and Jaunita (VanReenan) Groseclose. He was a graduate of Fredericktown High School class of 1959, an FFA alumni, and was a proud Veteran serving in the United States Navy from 1959-1963. Fred was employed at Cooper Bessemer/Rolls-Royce in Mount Vernon for over 40 years. He attended Cornerstone Community Church because he was a Methodist Christian, a member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio, a founding member of the Kokosing Chapter, a member of the Flint Ridge Chapter, the Johnny Appleseed Chapter and the West Lafayette Archaeology Group and a member of the Knox County Agricultural Museum. Fred was a 50-year member of the Thrall Lodge #170 F. & A.M. in Fredericktown. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and trapping. He also enjoyed gardening and canning. But most of all, he loved the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and grandpuppies Sadie and Barney.

He is survived by his wife, of over 57 years, Shirley (Grubaugh) Groseclose; his son David (Laura) Groseclose; his daughter Linda (Ron) Matthews; four grandchildren, Matthew (Madeline) Groseclose, Nichole (Gaven Wears) Groseclose, Ryan (Ally Yacapraro) Matthews, Rachel Matthews; and his brothers, Dick Groseclose and Barry (Connie) Groseclose.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by an infant brother David Groseclose.

Friends may call on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Cornerstone Community Church from 3-5pm. A service will follow, beginning at 5pm, with Pastor Jerry Ernst officiating.
