Robert W. Hamler Jr., age 90, of Howard, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Danbury Assisted Living in Mount Vernon.
He was born on February 19, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio to Robert W. and Mary Jane (Bower) Hamler Sr.
Bob was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Church of Christ, Apple Valley Architectural Committee and a Truro Township Trustee. He was a retired firefighter and began the fire education safety program at Truro Township Fire Department Known in the community as “Fireman Bob” by all the children.
Bob was a gifted carpenter, woodworker, builder, cabinet marker and fixer of all things broken. As an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, Bob never met a piece of wood that he couldn’t turn into a work of art. He looked forward to showing and selling his latest creations each year at the Johnny Appleseed Craft Show in Apple Valley.
Bob is survived by his wife, Maxine Hamler; brother, Ralph Hamler, sisters, Laura Duffy, Janet Walburn; his children, Denise Hamler, Lisa Hamler-Fugitt (Richard Fugitt), Brad Hamler (Millie Hamler); grandchildren Aaron Alana Frisby (Jeremiah Frisby), Jonah Mytro (Allison Haas) and Katja Hamler Landau (Parker Landau); great-grandchildren, Camden Frisby, Tatum Mytro, Hawken Mytro, Annika Haas, and Scout Landau.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Boxwell.
The family is observing private services. The Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel is handling the arrangements for the family.
Many thanks to the caring staff at Centerwell Home Health who helped dad regain his health and maintain his independence over the years; to Dr. Amy Murnen, all the Doctors and health care professionals at Knox Community Hospital who helped dad manage his health conditions; the entire team of staff and team of care professionals at Danbury Senior Living Mount Vernon and Gentiva Hospice who cared for dad during his final months with mom at his side.
