HOWARD — Danville unleashed a big second half to thwart ancient rival East Knox’s upset bid on Friday night to collect a Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference boys basketball road win.

In the end, the Blue Devils earned a 65-36 decision.

“I felt like we were back on our heels a bit,” Danville coach Matt Proper said of his team’s first-half performance.

The teams were neck and neck for the first two quarters of play, which saw Danville (17-3 overall, 10-2 in the KMAC) carry a 22-18 lead into halftime.

Beginning the second half, the scoreboard was as frozen as the cars on the lot outside the gym. Nearly two minutes clicked off the clock before either team netted any points in that third period.

Following the layup that ended the drought, the dam burst and Danville outscored East Knox 25-7, to take a 47-25 lead after the third quarter, and never looked back.

Parker Proper led all scorers with 23 for the winning team and Ashton Spaulding added 16 for Danville.

The Bulldogs (5-14 overall, 3-9 in the conference) travel to Columbus to challenge Tree of Christian Life on Saturday night.
