Osteoarthritis is the wear and tear and deterioration of the surface cartilage of a joint. The most commonly affected joints are the knee joint, hip joint, and lower back.
The causes of osteoarthritis are multifactorial. At least 50% is genetic. Next most common cause is posttraumatic or post joint injury.
The most effective ways to limit or minimize the progression of osteoarthritis include maintaining range of motion and flexibility of the joint, avoidance of joint injury, and maintenance of appropriate body weight.
There are not any dietary supplements that have been proven effective in the prevention of osteoarthritis.
