HOWARD — East Knox Local Schools locked down due to an active threat around 11 a.m. on Monday and Danville Local Schools locked down out of precaution around the same time.

Danville Local Schools posted to Facebook that it ended the Level One lockdown around 1 p.m. and the district is “operating as usual for the rest of the day and will dismiss at regularly scheduled times.”

At around noon, East Knox Superintendent Richard Baird issued this letter to parents:

“East Knox Local School district is under a current active threat. All staff, students, and buildings are in a lockdown status. No one is injured at this time as it is a threat. Law Enforcement is on the scene conducting a thorough search,” he stated.

“Our next step for students will begin the reunification process that will lead to parent pick up at a different location.”

At about 1:45 p.m. East Knox began its reunification process at a different location than its campus in Howard.

“All athletic events tonight for East Knox Junior and Senior high school are cancelled. This includes all practices, games, and matches,” an East Knox Athletics Facebook post states.

Knox County Emergency Management Deputy Director Amy Seward and Knox County’s Sheriff Dan Weckesser confirmed that a press conference will take place at 4:45 p.m. at the KCSO building.

This story is ongoing and it will be updated as authorities release more information.
