FREDERICKTOWN — The Centerburg Trojans failed to produce a full team for the junior varsity game against Fredericktown on Friday night, resulting in only one half of basketball being played prior to the main event.

Things did not improve for the visitors in the varsity game either. The Trojans ended up on the short end of a 62-9 trouncing by the still unbeaten Freddies.

The first quarter ended with the home team holding a 16-4 advantage, and by halftime that margin had grown to 24 with Fredericktown leading 40-6.

“I was happy with the way our guys started out, I think they were a little shell shocked with the way things started,” Fredericktown coach Derek Dibling said. “For us it’s about maintaining good habits. No matter what you’re doing, it’s about building good habits.”

Dibling impressed on his team that playing their best was critical even when the lead became insurmountable.

“Play together, play as a team,” he said. “Don’t get sloppy.”

Fredericktown had three players that broke into double figures. Gavin Toombs led the way with 18 points, while Carson Rinehart added 13 and Zane Luckmeier hit for 12.

Centerburg had two players who found the hoop, Steffan Sands with 5 and Hayden Love with 4.

Fredericktown, now 10-0 and 6-0 in conference play, will host Cardington-Lincoln on Tuesday.

That same night, Centerburg (4-9 and 3-4 in conference play) will host Northmor.
