Betty J. Smith, age 92, of Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 24, 1933, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to the late Raymond and Gertrude (Henry) Frey.
Betty was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church for over 60 years (formerly known as Fredericktown United Methodist Church). She served as the church organist for many decades. Over the years she was active in the choir, bell choir, directed carol choir, and was active in her Sunday school class and other church ministries. Music was Betty’s passion. She loved playing the piano and played the organ for countless weddings.
Betty worked for Fredericktown Local School District as a bus driver and cafeteria worker. She attended Fredericktown Senior Citizens activities. Betty loved traveling, with her most recent trip being to The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC. She often reminisced fond memories of her trip to the Holy Land with her church friends in 1978. She attended the Gaither Praise Gatherings in Indianapolis, Indiana, for many years. She also went on several cruises throughout her lifetime, but above all, loved spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by her children, Tim Smith, Brenda Gerhart, Tom (Eileen) Smith, Beth (John) Singrey; grandchildren Shelly (Brent) Jackson, Rob Armstrong, Timothy (Ashley Stacey) Smith, Ashley (Loyd) Beheler, Robert (Zuli Dominguez) Smith, Jimmy (Jennifer Roth) Gerhart, DeAnda (Andrew) Bradish, Nathan Smith, Jeremy (Casandra) Smith and Logan (Keila) Singrey; numerous great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, David Streib.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Gertrude, husband Ted Smith, daughter Barb Streib, son Terry Smith, son-in-law Dean Gerhart; sister Mary West, sister Ruth Weidman and a brother John Frey.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 11 am until the celebration of life service starting at 1:00 PM at the Cornerstone Community Church, 123 Columbus Road, Fredericktown, Ohio, 43019, Pastor Jerry Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.
