ASHLAND — Stacy Lee Simmons, a West Salem woman who was a 2025 finalist with her pastor husband in the national “America’s Favorite Couple,” has allegedly stolen nearly $21,000 from her daughter.
The 49-year-old pleaded not guilty on Monday to felony charges of grand theft, telecommunications fraud and forgery.
She was freed after posting bond set by Ashland County Common Pleas Court Magistrate Paul Lange. The magistrate set bond at $10,000 and allowed 10 percent.
Simmons was indicted by a county grand jury Dec. 11 and arrested Dec. 12.
Simmons and her husband, Pastor Mike Simmons of New Beginnings Crossroads Fellowship in West Salem, were among 14 finalists in the national contest.
According to the contest website, “America’s Favorite Couple competition brings together sweethearts from every walk of life in a heartwarming showdown of love, laughter, and connection—all while supporting the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana.”
The grand theft indictment alleges Simmons “obtained or exerted control” over $20,893 without the consent of the victim, Ashley Sue Marie Simmons, 19, between 2019 and 2023. It’s a fourth-degree felony.
The forgery charge claims that Simmons defrauded her daughter of more than $7,500 in April 2024, also a fourth-degree felony.
The telecommunications fraud allegation doesn’t list a victim, but claims the amount was more than $7,500. It’s a third-degree felony.
Stacy and Michael Simmons are listed as parents of Ashley Sue Marie Simmons in an Ashland County Probate Court filing dating back to 2016.
Ashland County Assistant Prosecutor Matt Metcalf declined to comment on the case. Voice messages were left with Simmons’ attorney, Norman Miller Jr.
A jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 17, according to court records.
