Roger A. Barnes, 72, of Worthington, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the Cotter House in Worthington. He was born on August 3, 1953 in Columbus to the late John M. and Janice M. (Taylor) Barnes.
Roger worked for the State of Ohio in the Commerce Department as a Boiler Inspector for 43 years. He enjoyed riding his bike and being outdoors. He also loved taking drives.
Most of all, he loved spending time with his children, whether that was coaching their sports teams as kids or doing projects around their homes as they got older. Roger was a joyful and silly grandfather to his grandchildren and grand-dogs. He was who his children called when their dogs escaped the house at night (he was always at the ready with a headlamp) or needed an extra walk. In his later years, even on days when there were challenges with his illness, he always had a smile and a “Hey Sweetie” for his loved ones. Roger was Catholic by faith.
Roger is survived by his children, Christoper (Carly) Barnes of Ostrander, Nicholas (Christin Brettel) Barnes of Worthington, and Jessica (Ryan) Kammer of Urbana; grandchildren, Caylah and Carter Barnes, Margot and Gwendolyn Barnes, and Charlotte and Rowan Kammer; sister, Connie (Bob) Crock of Hopewell; brothers, Timothy (Diana) Barnes of Mount Vernon and Jeffrey (Lyn Dima – ala) Barnes of Mount Vernon; niece, Alyssa Crock; and nephew, Matthew Barnes.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by nephew, Timothy Barnes.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at Noon on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon with Deacon Tim Birie presiding. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory. Visit https://events.alz.org/fundraisers/nicholasbarnes/roger-barnes-tribute-page for Roger’s tribute page.
