Ronald L. Boston, 77, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2025.
Ron was born in Mt. Vernon and raised on the family farm on Boston Road in Sunbury, Ohio, where he learned the value of hard work and developed a lifelong love of animals and the outdoors.
Ron was not one who got too excited or upset if something did not go his way. One of his favorite sayings was “You are not lost if you have gas in the tank.”
He was deeply devoted to harness racing as an owner, driver, trainer, and farrier. Beginning with ponies and later racing standardbreds, Ron cared for his horses with meticulous attention—lasering joints, poulticing legs, adjusting harnesses, and shoeing—always striving to give them the best chance at the finish line. Though he tried to step away from the sport, another standardbred would inevitably appear.
Ron was generous with his time and enjoyed helping newcomers get started in harness racing. He also liked visiting wineries, trail riding, splitting wood, and playing dominos and euchre with family and friends.
He attended Creekside Farms Church services and was a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association and United States Trotting Association.
He is survived by his companion of 25 years, Sue Jacobs; daughter Lisa (Duane) Thiergartner; grandchildren Evan (Megan) Thiergartner and Lauren Thiergartner; and siblings Anita (Bill) Westfall and Charma (Perry Kimberly) Boston.
He was preceded in death by his parents William C. Boston and Imogene (Burgoon) Boston, and siblings Larry Boston, Donna Wallick, Wayne Boston, and Curt Boston.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2025, at Snyder Funeral Homes, Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m.
