Ruth Elaine Whyde, age 75, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on December 8, 2025, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Ruth was born in Freemont, Ohio, to Cecil and Pauline (Miller) Hoffman on June 17, 1950. She graduated from Newark High School in Ohio in 1968 and attended Central Ohio Technical College in Newark. She married Billy P. Whyde in 1974 and later married David L. Freeman.
Se worked as an Engineering Technician at the former Newark Air Force Base until its closure in 1996 and then worked several other jobs in customer service.
Ruth’s hobbies included candle making and she also loved participating in and attending craft shows. She also loved fishing, gardening and birding. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her second huband Dave Freeman; and two brothers, Kennth L. and Dale E. Hoffman.
Ruth is survived by her first husband Billy P. Whyde; her children Todd Whyde and Brandy Thomas both of Mount Vernon; siblings Carol, Bill, Diane, Rita and David; grandchildren, Cayden and Braydyn Thomas, Shailyn Hill, Preston Krebs; and a great granddaughter Jubilee; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be at a later date at Faith Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, Ohio with funeral services officiated by Pastor Alvin Cheng immediately following visitation.
Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Baptist Church or to the family.
