MOUNT VERNON — As we prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the City of Mount Vernon is beginning to wrap up the 2025 leaf collection season.

So far this year, crews have completed four passes throughout the city, resulting in over 100 loads of leaves collected.

Starting Monday, Dec. 1, the city will be operating with one truck/machine to collect the remaining leaves.

All other equipment is being converted for winter operations in anticipation of the winter weather event expected this weekend.

“We ask that all residents place their leaves at the curb as soon as possible so crews can collect them efficiently with limited equipment,” the City stated in a press release.

Residents who still require leaf pick-up should call the Street Department at 740-393-9501 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., beginning Monday, Dec. 1.

The leaf drop-off area at the Thayer Road Compost Facility remains open daily from dawn until dusk for loose leaves only.

All bags or containers must be removed after emptying.

“Thank you to all residents for helping make the 2025 leaf season a success, and we
wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!” the City stated.
