Maureen P. Coleman Obituary
MAUREEN P. (FARMER) COLEMAN, 74, of Shaker Heights, OH, and formerly of Westerville and Mt. Vernon, passed on from this earthly life on November 21, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was born on June 27, 1951, in Pittsburgh, PA to Edward and Margaret (Pace) Farmer. She graduated from Carrick High School in 1969. On August 7, 1971, she married her husband of 32 years, the late John J. Coleman, Jr. at St. Norbert’s. She was affectionately known as “Doll.”
Maureen enjoyed traveling, beach vacations, antiquing and visiting with her sisters, photography, shopping, supporting her children in every one of their hobbies and dreams, and being with and spoiling her grandchildren. Music was essential to her being and there were always the greatest hits playing in the background when she was around. She loved the simple joys, to be playful, cats, Harry Potter, watching PBS Masterpiece Theater and shows on the BBC, Agatha Christie novels and reading mysteries, good food, sugary treats, and the holidays, Christmas most of all. She had a great and abiding faith and special devotions to the rosary, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Faustina, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet every day at 3:00 PM. One of her greatest and lasting gifts was that she passed on her Catholic faith to her children and grandchildren. In her memory, we kindly ask that you pray the rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 PM.
She is survived by her four children, Heather (Ben) Bechtel of Howard, Autumn (Matt) Purdy of Westerville, Sean Coleman of Grandview, and Molly (Matt) Stout of Shaker Heights who selflessly cared for Maureen during her decade-long illness. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Mariah Purdy of Verona, PA and Cassius, Lydia, and Jude Purdy of Westerville, her sisters, Eileen Ferris of Robinson Township, PA and Coleen (Leonard) Tarbi of Natrona Heights, PA, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Edward M. Farmer and the Rev. Regis M. Farmer, and sister, Marjorie Wiseman.
