Brendan T. “Buc” Muir, 79, of Howard passed away on Tuesday afternoon, November 18, 2025 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Toledo. He was born on April 11, 1946 in Columbus to the late Robert and Rose (Hiler) Muir.

Buc honorably served his country in the Navy during Vietnam. He worked for 30 years as an Engineer for Ameritech and after retiring from Ameritech, he owned and operated Evans and Muir Insurance Company. Buc was an active member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple, the AmVets, V.F.W., Centerburg Conservation Club, and the Amateur Radio Club.

Buc is survived by his wife, Brenda (Wiley) Muir; a daughter, Haley Muir of Newark; sons, Brendan Troy (Erika) Smitherman of New Albany, Ryan Travis (Jen) Smitherman of Mount Vernon, and Joshua Tyler Smitherman of Marysville; grandchildren, Marissa Smitherman, Alexa Keener, Brendan Storm Smitherman, Thomas Smitherman, Anne Reihoehl, and Matt Reihoehl; a great grandson, Beckett Keener; brother, Max Muir of Omaha, NE; his beloved canine companion, Addie Girl; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Buc was preceded in death by his sisters, Sara Stephens and Kendra Weatherall.

The family will receive friends from 4- 6 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple, 21453 Floralwood Dr., Howard with Pastor Joshua Lehman officiating. Burial will follow in Amity Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
