Barbara A. Fry of Mt. Vernon, OH, passed away unexpectedly in her home on November 7, 2025. She was born on October 29, 1944 in Russell County, VA to the late A.D. and Betsy (Warner) Statzer. She and her family relocated to Knox County in 1956 and she graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1963. Barb retired from the MVDC in 2003 after 26 years of service. Soon after, she rediscovered her love of quilting and knitting, which led to her dream job at Paw Patch Quilt Shop, where she enjoyed the collaborative and creative environment and established many cherished friendships.
Barb’s talents were immeasurable, and sewing and knitting beautiful creations for family members and friends brought her immense joy. Her legacy will live on forever through her generosity and amazing quilts, scarves, wall hangings, ornaments, and other items that she so lovingly crafted.
Barb also enjoyed gardening and cooking for family gatherings, and made sure family traditions and recipes were passed on to younger generations. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and looked forward to planning and attending quilting retreats with her beloved friends.
Barb is survived by her daughter Gidget (Mark) Graves, son Robert Stringfellow, step-daughter Cathy (Bryan) Elswick, granddaughter Ashlie Graves, great-grandson Karsyn Donelson, sister Phyllis Shira, brother Jerry (Annette) Statzer, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Fry and brother-in-law, Roger Shira.
