Stephen B. Joris, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 1, 1947, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of Rene and Claudia (McNeil) Joris. Stephen was a 1965 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and worked for many years at Marion Power Shovel in Marion, Ohio, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
A proud member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge in Mount Vernon and the American Legion in Caledonia, Stephen enjoyed being part of his community and spending time with friends.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed exploring with his metal detector, always eager to uncover a hidden treasure. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, creating countless memories that will live on in their hearts.
Stephen is survived by his children, Amy (Gregory) Yashnyk of Mount Vernon, Alyssa (Herb Hines) Joris of Sunbury, and Rene (Brooke) Joris of Gambier, nine grandchildren, Marissa Diamond, Nickolas Yashnyk, Alexandria Joris-Young, Erik Green, Ellie Joris, RW Joris, Harper Joris, Leo Joris and Nayomi Davidson, six great grandchildren, a sister, Jane (Don) Chapin of Wilmington and good friends Debbie and Henry.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will observe a private service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Stephen B. Joris.
