Freda Walker, age 82, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born on February 15, 1943, in Bland County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Raymond and Gladys (Neal) Gregory.
Freda was a hard-working and dedicated woman who, alongside her late husband, Danny Walker, owned and operated Walker’s Refuse. Over the years, she also worked for Chattanooga Glass, Rose Gardens Nursing Home, and the Ohio Eastern Star Home, where she shared her skills and kindness as a cosmetologist.
Beyond her career, Freda’s greatest joy came from her family. She cherished her role as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her warmth and generosity were felt most deeply during the holiday season, when she delighted in bringing her family together and creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Freda will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her tireless work ethic, and her caring spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Rick Carper of Mount Vernon, Deb (Michael) Canterbury of Howard, Tim (Mariah Clark) Carper of Gambier, Rod (Desiree Hoo) Carper of San Leandro, California, Amy (Christoper) Bruch of Howard, Cindy (Dan) Hayes of Thornville, Melanie (Douglas) Shannon of Cumberland, Kentucky, fifteen grandchildren, Sonya Warner, Kelsey Jones, Korey Jones, McKenna May, Coleton Bruch, Steven Shannon, Breanna Billman, Brydon Hayes, Lexie Murphy, Branson Carper, Trevyn Carper, Brian Calhoon, Levi Lape, Miranda Conkle, Michael Canterbury, Baleigh Woodruff, twenty great grandchildren and a great great grandson. She is also survived by a bother, Tom Gregory of Mount Vernon, a sister, Lily (Bob) Ferguson of Ankenytown and her canine companion Molly.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Danny Walker, and a brother Claude Gregory.
Friends may call on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. with pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery in Gambier.
