CENTERBURG — Centerburg voters on Nov. 4 are asked to renew a three-mill, five-year property tax operating levy for general expenses.

As a renewal, the tax would not cost residents additional funds.

“It’s really the part of the revenue that funds a lot of the operations that people see around the village,” Centerburg village administrator Rick Dzik said.

“This is everything from the staff who plows the roads and takes care of the parks and other public areas to paying general bills and things like that.”

A sample ballot states that the county auditor estimates the levy would collect $34,500 annually.

In 2024, the county auditor reported that Centerburg collected $31,676.62 from the same levy up for renewal this November.

Dzik said the village could also use this money for projects that don’t receive state or federal grant funding.

“One of the things we’ve done recently is that we’ve been able to buy a couple of front-end loaders to help the staff perform a lot of maintenance work, or other things around the village. So it’s to make those purchases that we wouldn’t be able to find a grant for,” Dzik said.

Dzik said road and stormwater projects are also projects with levy funds assist.

Voters in the 27th precinct will also decide a pair of liquor options for Long Branch Pizza at 7 W. Main St.

Long Branch Pizza is looking to offer customers alcoholic beverages as an applicant for a D-5 and D-6 liquor permit on November’s ballot.

The D-5 permit would allow the sale of beer, wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor.

The D-6 permit would tack on the sale of the above on Sundays, as well.
