Gloria J. Chrisman, age 85, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 25, 1940, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Dean and Helen (Meals) Rodgers.
Gloria graduated with an associate’s degree from Webber College and previously worked for Smith’s Home and Office, Shastar Rent to Own, and Dollar General of Mount Vernon. She was an active member of Mulberry Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Gloria was also a previous member of Soroptimist and volunteered at Interchurch Social Services of Knox County and served as a Red Coat on Saturday afternoon at Ohio State Football games.
Gloria took great pride in her flower garden and loved to grow beautiful things to bring some joy to others. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Charles after they retired.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Charles Chrisman, her children, D. Scott (Michelle) Hutcheson of Mount Vernon, Jeffrey (Lael) Hutcheson of Pataskala, Sheree Carter of Mount Vernon, Troy Chrisman of Mount Vernon, grandchildren, Alex Marsano, Greg Marsano, Adam Canter, Nick Canter, Amy (Logan) Kelling, Christen (Travis) Crampton, Caelan Hutcheson, Jonas Smithhisler, Trey (Brooklyn) Carter, several great grandchildren, a sister, Carol George of Avon Lake and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Hutcheson, a grandson, Chad Smithhisler, a sister, Marylin Hughes and a son in law, Rusty Carter.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, beginning at 12 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Rev. Doug Pummell officiating. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Gloria J. Chrisman.
