Janis Fae Wright, age 70, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 4, 1955, in Mount Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Betty (Posey) Scoles. Janis was a proud lifelong resident of the area and a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Janis found great joy in the simple pleasures of life—fishing on a quiet morning, tending to her vibrant flower and vegetable gardens, and preparing home-cooked meals for her loved ones. She was an avid reader, and those who knew her well will remember her for her heartfelt conversations, her caring spirit, and her unique knack for giving timeless motherly advice—especially about life and when the next weather storm is coming (lol).
One of Janis’s greatest passions was supporting her children in everything they did. She was a constant presence at their sporting events and activities, always cheering the loudest and loving the hardest.
She is survived by her children, Collette (Paul) Pettit of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida; Darwin Allen (Tory) Cagnon of Mount Vernon; Darrell Alan (Tiffany) Cagnon of Mount Vernon; Lacy (Jonathan Werner) Cagnon of Fredericktown; Kenny Smaltz of Chesterville; and Kyle Smaltz of Fredericktown. Janis also leaves behind eighteen cherished grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two loving sisters, Diane Whiting of Columbus and Charlotte Cline of Mount Vernon.
Her faithful canine companion, Buddy, also survives her and was a constant comfort in her later years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Janet Mae Mickley and Christine Murphy.
Janis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support live on in the lives of her family and friends.
The family will observe a private service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Janis Fae Wright.
Memorial Contributions in her name may be made to Capital City Hospice of Mount Vernon.
