About the event:

Greg Melville worked at the cemetery in his hometown and, while pushing a lawn mower for countless hours, came to realize what a rich story the place told of his town and its history. Thus began his lifelong curiosity with how, where, and why we bury and commemorate our dead.

Over My Dead Body is a lively history of cemeteries, places that have both mirrored and shaped historical eras. Cemeteries have given birth to famous parks, influenced architectural styles, and inspired poets and authors. They have been used as political tools and have served as symbols of our nation’s ambition and reach.

With a light touch, Melville raises big questions about cemeteries and what it really means to memorialize the past.

And cemeteries can also be spooky places. That might come up too.

Read the book and come talk about it.
