SULLIVAN TOWNSHIP — An Arizona man died Friday after a single-vehicle crash on Ohio 58 in Sullivan Township, according to the Ashland Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Jason L. Carter, 55, of Coolidge, Ariz., was pronounced dead at Akron General Hospital about four hours after the accident, according to the patrol.
Troopers responded to a crash report at 6:05 p.m. on Ohio 58, just north of Township Road 150.
According to the patrol, Carter was driving a 2021 GMC Sierra southbound on Ohio 58. He went off the right side of the road and struck a tree before the pickup truck came to a rest and caught on fire.
Troopers said Carter was able to exit the vehicle before it was fully engulfed in flames.
Carter sustained serious injuries and was transported by EMS to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Lodi Hospital.
From there, Carter was taken by medical helicopter to Akron General Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m. by the Summit County Medical Examiner due to his injuries sustained in the crash, the patrol said.
Troopers said it’s unknown if Carter was wearing his seat-belt at the time of the crash. The crash was still under investigation Saturday morning.
