MOUNT VERNON — Barry George, M.D., ended his active practice at Knox Community Hospital on June 28.

“Throughout a remarkable professional and personal journey, Dr. George has been an exemplary health care professional, demonstrating exceptional clinical expertise, progressive and innovative techniques, and compassionate patient care delivered with a personal touch,” hospital CEO Bruce White said last week in officially announcing George’s retirement.

George is a 1979 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. He completed his internal medicine residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in 1982, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease in 1984.

George completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the San Francisco Heart Institute in 1985.

White recognized George’s years of dedicated service and support to the community, including nine years as a key member of KCH’s employed cardiology medical group.

“His commitment to advancing medical excellence and fostering strong patient relationships has significantly enhanced health care services experienced by our patients,” White said.

“His mentorship provided to physicians representing the next generation and his leadership in various medical initiatives has left an indelible mark on our organization.”

George was instrumental in helping recruit the hospital’s two newest interventional cardiologists, Dr. Alex Wallner and Dr. Som Bailey, who joined the KCH team in August.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. George for his unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to both our hospital and community,” White said.

“His professional dedication, combined with his genuine care for patients’ well-being, has set a high standard of medical practice that will continue to inspire our team long into the future.

“His legacy of excellence will remain a lasting inspiration to our medical community,” White added.
