Hayes posted a narrow 41-34 win over Mt. Vernon in Ohio high school football on Sept. 5.

Mt. Vernon showed it was ready to play, using an early thrust to carve out a 14-7 advantage over Hayes as the first quarter ended.

Had this been a prize fight, the Yellow Jackets would’ve earned the judge’s decision at halftime, with a 20-7 lead on the Pacers.

Mt. Vernon moved ahead by earning a 34-27 advantage over Hayes at the end of the third quarter.

The Pacers pulled off a stirring 14-0 final quarter to trip the Yellow Jackets.

In recent action on Aug. 22, Hayes faced off against Delaware Buckeye Valley.
