MOUNT VERNON — A cyberattack hit DaVita, a global healthcare provider company, back in April, leaving nearly 2.7 million people’s protected information at risk.
The kidney care providers have a location in Mount Vernon, making patients from Knox County potentially at risk.
The hack initiated on March 24 and concluded on April 12 after the company was able to block the hacker from its servers, according to DaVita’s website.
On April 24, the hacker posted information claimed to be DaVita’s on a leak site.
“On or about June 18, 2025, we were able to obtain the set of data the threat actor posted and determine that sensitive personal information from our dialysis labs database was involved,” DaVita’s website states.
The information taken from each patient varies, but below is a list of the possible information in question for those affected, according to DaVita.
- Name
- Address
- Date of birth
- Social security number
- Health insurance-related information
- Dialysis lab test results
- Tax identification numbers
- Images of checks written to DaVita
What can folks do now?
DaVita has mailed letters to patients and the estates of former patients affected further detailing what to do now to stay safe.
