Loren P. Wagner, just shy of 71 years old, of Fredericktown, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Sunday night, August 3 at Brookdale Mount Vernon. He had battled Alzheimer’s disease for the past several years.

Born August 28, 1954 in Galion, Ohio, he was the son of Wayne A. Wagner and Dorothy A. Bollinger. He married his high school sweettart Carole A. Shaw on February 14, 1977.
He was affectionately known by many names – Honey, Dad, the Chief, Skyhawk, and Papa. He leaves behind a legacy rich in love, laughter, service and selflessness.

A devoted family man, Loren counted his greatest accomplishment to be loving and caring for his family. His pride and joy were the people he held close, and his love for them was unwavering and evident in everything he did.

Loren proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He always expressed great emotion and pride when speaking of being a Marine. Loren and Carole faithfully attended Batemantown United Methodist Church for many years. He taught the preschool Sunday School class, filled roles of treasurer and Superintendent, and cooked a mean Men’s Breakfast. He retired from Mansfield Plumbing Products after 39 years, and then spent his retirement sharing his faith and encouraging others by playing cards at City Center (a community outreach program) through Crossroads Church, where he and Carole have attended for many years. Whether it was offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or just showing up when someone needed help, Loren lived a life of quiet generosity and steadfast friendship. If you called, he’d show up whenever you asked in order to help however he could.

A skilled carpenter, Loren could build just about anything. He always used lumber from trees he had cut down himself. Walnut was his favorite. He found joy in simple pleasures: playing cards, making maple syrup with friends and above all coming up with ANY excuse to eat ice cream. His laugh was contagious, and his sense of humor was never ending.
He was the kind of man who didn’t just tell you he loved you – he showed it. His commitment to serving people and the importance of family will stand for generations, just like anything he ever built from wood.

He is survived by his wife Carole, and two daughters and sons-in law, along with three amazing grandchildren. Rebecca and Lee Snider of North Webster, Indiana, and Miriam and Stuart Davidson of Fishers, Indiana. He adored his grandchildren Micah Snider (age 7), Mavis Davidson (age 9), and Maclan Davidson (age 5); and his siblings, Charlotte (Mert) Sipes, Lowell (Brenda) Wagner and Lyle (Shelley) Wagner.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother and sisters, Marjorie Wagner and Nancy Fisher.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 30th at 1:00 pm with the service beginning at 2:00 pm in the Family Life Center at Crossroads Waterford. 20595 Waterford Road, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019. Services will be conducted by Pastor Keegan McQuate.

Everyone is invited to stay for an ice cream social immediately following the service. Join us for a Loren sized scoop of ice cream in his honor. The family will hold a private graveside service at Blooming Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Crossroads Church, 1188 Park Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44906. Please indicate it’s for the City Center ministry in memory of Loren Wagner.
