MOUNT VERNON — Below are criminal court cases resolved in the Knox County Common Pleas Court during July.
July 3
The court continued community control sanctions for Matthew W. Abney, Howard, and ordered him to serve 210 days in the Knox County Jail. He was credited with serving 210.
July 10
Joseph P. Weiss, Mansfield, was sentenced to serve a definite 36-month prison sentence for trafficking in cocaine and 36 months on a firearm specification (25CR01-005 ). He was ordered to pay $5,000 and to forfeit $1,304 to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Weiss was given credit for nine days toward his sentence, along with future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
Weiss was also sentenced to 12 months on an amended charge of attempted disrupting public services. A third-degree strangulation charge was dismissed.
The sentence is to be served concurrently with the sentence imposed in the Knox County Common Pleas Court case 25CR01-005. The defendant is given credit for one day toward his sentence.
Tara M. Tomlin, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve a mandatory minimum of six years to maximum of nine years for aggravated possession of drugs. Tomlin was given credit for 158 days served toward her sentence. A $7,500 mandatory fine was vacated due to indigency.
Christopher M. Strange, Coshocton, was sentenced to a 24-month prison term for failure to comply with an order of a police officer and three days on a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. A charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle was dismissed.
Strange will serve the terms concurrently. He will serve the terms consecutively to a sentence imposed in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court.
Strange is given credit for 145 days served toward his sentence. The court ordered him to pay a $565 fine and restitution to the estate of Benito Pilotti of $3,000. The court suspended his operator’s license for five years beginning Feb. 26.
Dylan J. Strouse, Danville, was sentenced to a two-year term of community control for aggravated possession of drugs. He is to serve 249 days in the Knox County Jail and was credited for 69 days.
The jail term is suspended on the condition that Strouse enter and successfully complete the West Central Community Based Correctional Facility treatment program, submit to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan, submit to a term of drug and alcohol use monitoring, and obtain and maintain full-time employment.
Nathan S. Drane, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve a one-year term of community control for aggravated possession of drugs. He is to enter and successfully complete the Cardinal Point Treatment program and aftercare, submit to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan, submit to a term of drug and alcohol use monitoring, obtain and maintain full-time employment, and submit to a behavioral health assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan.
Austin L. Hardy, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve two years of community control for an amended charge of aggravated assault. Hardy was granted credit for four days served in the Knox County Jail. He is to pay $1,047.07 in restitution to the alleged victim. Monthly payments of $200 are to start Sept. 1.
Hardy is to submit to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan, submit to a term of drug and alcohol use monitoring, obtain and maintain full-time employment, and submit to a behavioral health assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan.
Nathaniel J. Cornell, Utica, pleaded no contest to a charge of violating a protection order. The court found the findings insufficient for a finding of guilty as alleged in the indictment and dismissed the case.
Brandon L. Butler, Mount Vernon, was ordered to continue his community control sanctions. He was ordered to serve 410 days in the Knox County Jail with credit given for 230.
July 17
Stephen M. Nida, Mount Vernon, had his community control revoked and was sentenced to serve a definite term of 11 months for possession of a fentanyl-related compound. Nida was given credit for 15 days in jail, along with future days while awaiting transportation to an appropriate institution.
Ashley M. Counts, Marengo, was sentenced to serve a definite term of 24 months on an amended charge of trafficking in marihuana. She was given credit for 140 days served. The court assessed a mandatory $5,000 fine, which was vacated due to indigency.
Chase A. Sherman, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve 24 months on a charge of having weapons while under disability and 11 months on an amended charge of aggravated possession of drugs.
Sherman will serve the sentence concurrently with the sentence imposed in cases 20CR07-0181 and 20CR05-0091. He was given credit for eight days served toward his sentence.
Marci L. Cantu, Mansfield, will serve one year of community control for aggravated possession of drugs. She was credited for 11 days served in the Knox County Jail. Cantu is to submit to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan. She is also to submit to a term of drug and alcohol use monitoring.
Abigail R. Zink, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to a definite prison term of 30 months on an amended charge of attempted corrupting another with drugs and 30 days on a felony count of endangering children. Zink is to serve the sentences consecutively. She was given 185 days’ credit toward her sentence.
An aggravated possession of drugs charge was dismissed, as well as two misdemeanor counts of endangering children.
Gregory D. Parker, Danville, will serve one year of community control for assault on a police officer and an amended charge of having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence. He is to submit to a six-month mandatory license suspension starting Jan. 29 and obtain and maintain full-time employment.
The court terminated the license suspension after conviction. Misdemeanor charges of resisting and speed limits were dismissed.
Tony L. Baucum, Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of criminal damaging. Charges of second-degree burglary and fifth-degree vandalism were dismissed.
The court sentenced Baucum to a one-year term of monitored time subject to Adult Court Services and to serve two days in the Knox County Jail. He was credited with serving for two days. Baucum is to pay $1,420 in restitution to the victim and have no jailable offenses for one year.
July 24
Harley D. Findlay, Orient, was sentenced to 54 months in prison on an amended charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He was given credit for 351 days served. Findlay is determined to be a Tier II sex offender/child victim offender registrant.
A misdemeanor charge of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles was dismissed.
Brandon P. Wolfe, Frazeysburg, was sentenced to a definite term of 11 months in prison for aggravated possession of drugs. He was credited with 55 days toward his sentence.
Denise L. Posey, homeless, will serve a one-year term of monitored time subject to Adult Court Services for aggravated possession of drugs. She is ordered to have no jailable offenses for one year.
Erika N. Sargent, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to two years of community control for grand theft of a motor vehicle, criminal trespass, and driving under suspension. She was to serve two days in jail with credit for two days given.
Sargent is to submit to an outpatient drug/alcohol assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan, submit to a term of drug and alcohol use monitoring, and enter into intensive outpatient drug/alcohol treatment.
The court revoked community control sanctions for Valyn A. Dague, Newark, and sentenced her to serve 180 days in the Knox County Jail with credit given for 13 days served.
Connie S. Williams, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to one year of monitored time subject to Adult Court Services. She is to submit to an outpatient drug/alcohol assessment and comply with any recommended treatment plan, submit to a term of drug and alcohol use monitoring, and have no jailable offenses for one year.
The court revoked the community control sanctions for Daniel L. Hawk, Danville, and sentenced him to 180 days in the Knox County Jail. He was credited with serving 13 days.
