MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Mayor Matthew Starr stepped out from behind his municipal desk to don Master of Ceremony duties Thursday night while hosting the annual Workforce Development Ceremony and luncheon at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The event honored and thanked all those who dedicate their time and effort to the City of Mount Vernon through acts of public service.

“Whether you’re in administration or public safety, streets, utilities or parks, planning or engineering, cemetery and public buildings and lands, or the law office and court system—you each play a role in building the future of this community.

“And more importantly, you play a role in sustaining the trust that people of Mount Vernon have placed in us,” Starr said.

To close out the afternoon, Starr saluted individuals who have reached “five-year incremental milestones.”

“So whether you’ve been here 30 years or 3 months, know this: you are valued,” Starr said. “You are part of something meaningful. And what you do every day is building a legacy—not just for this administration, but for generations to come.”
