MOUNT VERNON — In 2023, the Kokosing Valley Rotary Club made a decision to embrace the peace focus of Rotary International.

The club set a goal of installing 15 peace poles in Knox County over the next few years. The club set up a peace committee consisting of Mike Pryjda, Sara Mankins and Jane Fricke.

Kokosing Valley is three years old as a club. Additionally, it is one of two clubs in District 6690 that meet in the evening.  KVR meets once a month and serves the community with at least two projects monthly.

Rotary International has seven areas of focus: disease control, education, economic development, clean water/sanitation, women & children’s health/mental health, environment, and peace.

In addition to setting a goal of 15 poles, the club is also a Peace Builder Club and has participated in an international Peace Builder grant in the Virgin Islands.

The club has installed poles displaying four languages at Shellmar Park, Hiawatha Water Park and Harmony Park playground.

Anyone who is interested in setting a pole at their school, church, park area or other location is encouraged to call 740-507-4044.
