Thomas E. Wilks, 76, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday morning, June 6, 2025 at his home. He was born on August 17, 1948 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Edward J. and Anna (Smith) Wilks.
Tom graduated from Springfield Local High School and then enrolled and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Franciscan University in Steubenville. He was the Head of Engineering for the Energy Co-Op, and retired on September 25, 2014. Tom volunteered his talents to Habitat for Humanity of Knox County. He was a third-degree black belt in Shoto-Kan Karate. He was a member of the Saint John the Baptist Parish, attending Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, and was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers.
Tom is survived by his wife, Winnis (Repella) Wilks; daughter, Anastasia (Michael) Shumake; son, Jeremy (Jenny) Wilks; grandchildren, Avery and Darcy Wilks; brother, Michael (Pam) Wilks; niece, Melissa Monyak; and nephews, Hunter and Payton Wilks, and Bryan Monyak.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Monyak.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lasater Chapel 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd., Mount Vernon. The Rosary will be recited following the visitation at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father Daniel Olvera as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity of Knox County in Tom’s memory.
