MARENGO — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost issued the following statement regarding the death of Morrow County Deputy Sheriff Daniel Weston Sherrer, who was killed in the line of duty on Memorial Day evening.
Morrow County Sheriff John L. Hinton said in a statement that the department received a call reporting a domestic situation. A deputy responded to a residence located at the 100 block of County Road 26 in Marengo.
Upon the deputy arriving to the residence, an officer-involved shooting occurred, the sheriff said.
The deputy was struck and transported to a hospital, where he died. The subject was also shot and was transported to a hospital in serious condition, the sheriff said.
It’s unclear what led up to the shooting.

Sherrer, 31, was a four-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.
The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the attorney general’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation to investigate the officer-involved critical incident. This case is active and ongoing.
DeWine orders flags lowered in honor of
Morrow County Deputy Sheriff Daniel Sherrer
COLUMBUS — In honor of the life and service of Morrow County Deputy Sheriff Daniel Sherrer, Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that the flags of the U.S. and the state of Ohio to be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Morrow County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower today.
The order will remain in effect until sunset on the day of his funeral.
All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the U.S. and the state of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.
