Thomas Edward “Tom” Carroll, age 86, of Mount Vernon, Ohio passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.
He was born on November 9, 1938, in Nelsonville, Ohio to the late Everett and Violet (Fink) Carroll.
Thomas was a graduate of Nelsonville High School where he participated in many activities. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Master’s degree in Business from Ohio University. Tom joined Battelle Memorial Institute as Leader of Programs involving environmental problems. After ten years with Battelle, Tom joined Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company as Environmental Affairs Director and retired from AEP after 25 years of service.
Tom was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a veteran serving in the United States Air Force. Tom enjoyed golfing, boating, hunting, photography, and deep-sea fishing in Alaska.
He is survived by his loving wife Dolores “Dee” Carroll and Furry Boy Beau; his daughters, Deborah (Dennis) Werner, Wendy (Wes) Underwood; stepsons, John (Tracey) Palmer, Darrell (Kathy) Palmer; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother William Carroll.
The family wishes to thank the Ohio Eastern Star nurses and aides, and Capital City Hospice who were so loving and caring with Tom. Our loving friends Peg and Russ Gartner, Donna Spinks, and Bill Lawhon. Our son Darrell and grandchildren Angelo, Nancy and Melissa who contacted Dee daily checking on our well-being.
Friends may call Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 2-3pm at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A prayer service will follow, beginning at 3pm, with Deacon Tim Birie presiding.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Tom’s name may be made to St. John the Baptist Parish, 303 East Hight St. Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, of which Tom was a member.
