LOUDONVILLE — A Mount Vernon man was killed and a Loudonville man was transported to a Wooster hospital after a three-vehicle crash on Wednesday night, according to the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A press release reported that Troopers are investigating the crash after a dark green 2000 Saturn Ion was being pursued by an Ashland County Sheriff’s Deputy for multiple traffic violations.
Authorities say Jerad Lane Shaw, 43, of Mount Vernon, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Timothy E. Deighan, 66, of Loudonville, was transported to Wooster Community Hospital with minor injuries.
The incident took place at 6:21 p.m. on North Market Street near East Butler Street in Loudonville.
According to the Patrol, the Saturn was northbound on State Route 3, failed to stop at a
red light at the intersection of East Main Street, and continued northbound onto North
Market Street.
A gray 2017 Dodge Ram pick-up truck was southbound on North Market Street, followed by a white Lexus sedan, the Patrol reported. The Saturn failed to maintain control, drove left of center and struck the Dodge Ram pick-up. The Saturn continued north and struck the Lexus.
Shaw was the driver of the Saturn, and was not wearing a seat belt, the Patrol stated. Deighan was driving the Lexus. The driver of the Dodge, Peter Van Kohl, 71, of Danville, was not injured.
The use of drugs and/or alcohol is unknown at the time of reporting, authorities said.
Assisting at the scene were: the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Loudonville Police Department, Loudonville Fire and EMS, Bate’s Garage & Towing and Aber’s Towing and Crane Service.
