John “Jack” L. Carpenter Jr., 87, of Mount Vernon was called home to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center following a brief decline in health surrounded by family. He was born on October 25, 1937 in West Layfette, Ohio to the late John L. and Genola (Huston) Carpenter Sr.
Jack honorably served his country in the Navy. He worked for 17 years at Cooper Energy Services and then he worked for the Sun Star Homes in North Carolina. After returning to Ohio, Jack worked at G.R. Smith’s Hardware. He was a member of the Berean Faith Fellowship Church in Mount Vernon.
Jack is survived by his wife, Patricia (Crunkilton) Carpenter; children, Cheryl (Barry) Whitt of Ashland, Scott (Donna) Carpenter of Westerville and Cathy (Don) Saylor of Coshocton; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma (Steve) Moffett of Lexington, SC.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Carole Everhart; a stepson, Joel Durbin; and a sister, Jane Earles.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service celebrating Jack’s life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lasater Chapel 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd., Mount Vernon with Pastor Gordon Harmon officiating. Military honors will be observed at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date in North Liberty Cemetery near Butler.
